Where in the world?

Ty Bach Bothy is situated adjoining National Trust Common Land - The Begwns - just north of Hay on Wye.

So straight out of the door you will find fabulous walks and runs - The Black Mountains and Brecon Beacons National Park are in easy reach, with a walk along the historic Welsh / English border, Offa’s Dyke a must. As well as the Brecon Beacons National Park, the River Wye is a draw in it’s own right, whether renting a canoe for the day, to high rope courses and gorge walking, there is plenty to do for the more adventurous.

Hay on Wye is a huge draw, with an international literary festival each May and 30+ second hand bookshops, an art house cinema and a healthy array of independent stores. A little further afield, Abergavenny hosts an excellent Food Festival each September and Brecon Jazz and the Green Man Festival each August have stirling reputations too.

There’s a great local riding centre nearby for pony trekking across the hills for all levels of experience. With bike storage next to the cottage and local bike hire and guiding available, it’s a great way to explore the hills, with plentiful country pubs providing easy refreshments!

Eating out

Take a pedal to the Roast Ox Inn for a traditional pint in Painscastle (approx. 1 mile) accessible by bike. Longer cycle rides, or evening drives will find you in Hay on Wye, with The Blue Boar, or Three Tuns to try. Topping our favourites are The Tram at Eardisley, The Stagg at Titley (Michelin star) and The Felin Fach Griffin.

There are plenty more good eateries in and around Hay on Wye, Booths Bookshop Cafe is perfect for brunch and The River Cafe in Glasbury serves a yummy lunch and supper. Thursday morning is market day in Hay, with delicious local food on sale from 8am. Talgarth is worth discovering, with a superb local butchers and the Talgarth Mill great for stocking up on bread.

The owners were so welcoming and we would not hesitate to recommend this little gem...
